Functioning as both an educational center and a place for ancestor worship, Pilam Seowon adheres faithfully to the architectural style known as "jeonhakhumyo," where the study hall stands at the forefront and the shrine for ancestral rites is situated at the rear.
Designated as a national treasure and cultural heritage site, Pilam Seowon holds numerous valuable records and documents related to the operation of Confucian academies and scholarly education during the Joseon Dynasty.
In July 2019, along with nine other seowons across the country, Pilam Seowon was inscribed as a UNESCO World Cultural Heritage under the name "Seowon, Korean Neo-Confucian Academies."
