    Program Introduction

    Project Introduction

Experience local life in Jecheon, Chungbuk, stepping away from the hustle of city life

You've probably thought at least once, "I want to get away from the city." However, many questions follow.

Can I really live outside the city?

    What can I do there?

Isn't this the only place where I can do what I want to do?

Experience the local life you've only thought about in Jecheon, Chungbuk. Learn to farm and do what you want to do!

Many people live their own lives in Jecheon, Chungbuk, instead of following the typical urban routine such as commuting to office buildings. Here, young people's rural lives and settlements are already supported. Create your own local experience with other young people who have already established themselves here! It will surely be a great help to grow the power to live even after leaving the city. Even if you go back, you'll get to know another life choice, "life outside the city."

    1. Country living is just about farming? Not at all! It's a place where you can unfold your own projects!

When we talk about living locally rather than in the city, does only farming immediately come to mind? However, living locally doesn't have to be just about farming. You can live fully in a local community while doing activities other than farming. Whether writing, baking bread, making music, crafting furniture, shooting videos, or managing a YouTube channel, you can engage in your activities to your heart's content. Join many young people who are already expressing their creativity here. You can utilize local facilities like bread cafes, carpentry workshops, and bookstores.

    Personal Project Examples

The participant Park, who participated in 2021, engaged in farming during working hours and pursued personal projects such as research during their free time.

    Q. I don't have confidence in carrying out personal projects well... Can I succeed there?

    A. There are many experts in the village, including the leaders. They have been researching and working for a long time for those who want to live their lives in their way. They are more than willing to help participants by giving them advice or support. By actively sharing difficulties and uncertainties, local experts can provide even more appropriate and suitable assistance!

    2. How to Maintain Basic Living: The Key is 'Farming'

However, it's difficult to turn a profit in jobs only out of personal interest. Consider starting with a job that can immediately support your daily life and livelihood. This is where 'farming' comes into play.

    Q. They say crops grow better when they hear the footsteps of farmers. Isn't farming something that requires a lot of hands-on attention and constant care?

    A. Not necessarily. These days, farming is becoming more convenient, and you don't need to devote a lot of time to it, perhaps just a couple of days a week. Also, in this project, 'farming' doesn't necessarily mean just tending crops; it can also involve learning about the overall local lifestyle.

If You Learn to Farm, Here's What You Can Specifically Learn.

    * The following activities are examples, and actual activities may vary depending on local conditions and the season.

    Institution Introduction

"We support the settlement of young people who will lead the future of rural Korea."

Our organization supports the settlement of young people in rural areas, particularly focusing on urban youth facing issues such as housing instability and intense competition. We view these individuals as vulnerable groups and aim to expose them to rural living as an alternative. By encouraging them to consider life outside the city and live harmoniously with their neighbors in their own way, we hope to increase the number of young people who find happiness in rural areas. Our ultimate goal is for them to settle in rural communities and contribute to rural revitalization. Led by our representative and supported by around 40 experts, we all strive towards a better life and inclusive living, aligned with the village's ultimate objectives.

    Location Overview

    Location Introduction

ㅣ Location  :  SOUTH KOREA, Jecheon

Jecheon-si in Chungcheongbuk-do is located in the northeast part of Chungcheongbuk-do, facing south towards Gangwon Province. It is known as the "City of Natural Healing" because everywhere you go, you can see beautiful nature and scenery, seasonal wild herbs, and medicinal plants. It is also a city with many ancient cultural relics gathered together. Uirimji Reservoir, the oldest reservoir in Korea, and Baeron Holy Ground, one of Korea's important holy sites, are not only historically significant but also surrounded by beautiful environments, attracting many visitors. Additionally, Cheongpungho Lake, boasting exotic landscapes, is a must-visit destination in Jecheon, offering facilities such as pleasure boats, cable cars, and a monorail for enjoying its scenery.

    COORDINATORS: TOP#3 in Jecheon-si in Chungcheongbuk-do

    1. Uirimji Reservoir

Uirimji Reservoir is the first among the top 10 attractions in Jecheon. Originally called “Imji,” the Uirimji Reservoir is one of Korea’s top reservoirs next to the Byeokgolje in Gimje and Susanje in Milyang, built during the Samhan Period. The exact construction date is unknown, but according to oral tradition, it is said to have originated from a dam to block off the flowing water from Yongdusan Mountain during the reign of King Jinheung of the Silla Kingdom. Today, it has gained fame as a recreational site and was designated as National Scenic Site No. 20 in 2006. Surrounding areas like "Yeonghojeong Pavilllion," "Gyeonghoru Pavillion," and centuries-old pine and willow trees blend to create a beautiful landscape.

    2. Cheongpung Cultural Heritage Complex

Cheongpungho Lake is located upstream of the Namhan River and has been a significant area since ancient times, from prehistoric to Joseon periods, due to its advantageous location for water transportation. However, in 1978, the construction of the Chungju Multi-Purpose Dam flooded the area, leading to the creation of a cultural heritage complex where relics from this site were gathered by the people who wanted to preserve them. Today, Cheongpungho Lake is renowned as Jecheon's top comprehensive tourist destination among the waterway of about 50km created by the Chungju Dam. It boasts the most attractions and stunning scenery, enhanced by beautiful mountains like Bibongsan Mountain and Geumsusan Mountain, as well as a small folk village and cultural heritage complex, attracting numerous tourists to Jecheon.

    3. Taksajeong Pavilion

Taksajeong Pavilion is named after a famous ancient Chinese poem. When feeling overwhelmed by the dust of the world, one can ascend Taksajeong Pavilion to be cleansed by the deep blue river, swept clean by the refreshing pine breeze. The majestic mountains reaffirm one's noble spirit, offering new wisdom and determination for life. If you enter the pavilion, you can experience the harmonious blend of the dignified scenery of Taksajeong Pavilion and the surrounding pine forest.
