Mokpo is historically known as one of the three major ports in the past.
Areas like Manho-dong saw rapid development during the Japanese colonial period due to reclamation projects.
However, over time, the local population shifted to Seoul, leading to depopulation and a halt in development.
Since the urban regeneration initiative started in Mokwon-dong in 2014, revitalization projects based on local assets have been actively carried out in neighborhoods like Borimadang in Seosan-dong, the 1897 Opening Culture Street in Manho-dong, Yongdang-dong, and Samhak-dong.
As a result, these areas have begun to thrive, and urban renewal efforts are now widespread in the region.
Spending a month here presents a great opportunity for young people with similar dreams to engage as local creators. If you're hesitating, take the challenge!
Local Creator Activities
As a local creator, you will plan projects that utilize the resources available in Mokpo or address local social issues, fostering mutual benefit between yourself and the community.

For example, organizing village festivals, teaching classes to share your talents or skills, operating shared facilities in vacant houses, conducting educational programs for rural youth, creating sculptures for Mokpo tourist spots, or serving as a village exploration guide.

This organization, located in Manho-dong and established since the 1st Geonmaek Festival in 2019, is a cooperative association.
Inspired by Mokpo's abundance of dried seafood, we conceived the idea of pairing local dried seafood with beer, fitting for our area's characteristics.
This initiative led to the creation of a daily tasting "village pub," the first of its kind nationwide, lighting up the once-darkened streets of Manho-dong.
It has become a major contributor, attracting both tourists and residents alike.
Based on this successful example, as an institution, they collaborate with local creators, residents, and youth to develop my content, leveraging their expertise and experience.

The accommodation is a locally operated lodging facility managed by the organization, offering rooms optimized for individuals or groups of 2-3 people.
Breakfast is available in the communal area on the second floor, and guests can enjoy the panoramic view of Yudal-Mountain and Mokpo Harbor from the rooftop.
In the evening, guests can also enjoy dried seafood snacks and refreshing draft beer at the Geonmaek Pub.

1. Yudal-Mountain
Yudal Mountain is a place where the soul finds rest. It offers beautiful scenery with pavilions like Daehakru, Dalseongak, and Yuseongak. Many attractions include the "Tears of Goal" monument and Korea's first outdoor sculpture park. The 2.7 km Yudal Mountain Circular Road provides views of Mokpo City and the Dadohae Seascape.
2. Mokpo Bridge Sunset
The soaring wings of Mokpo Bridge, resembling the wings of a flying bird, combined with the beautiful sunset, create a breathtaking scene. If you visit during sunset, you can see a breathtaking sunset crossing over the sea from the scenic Yongmeori Trail on Goha-Island.

3. Slow City Oedal-Island

Oedal-Island, meaning "an island isolated and floating alone," features pristine beaches and stunning natural surroundings. It was selected as one of the "Best 30 Islands for Leisure in Korea" by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport. The beach offers fine sandy shores perfect for swimming, and visitors can relish scenic views and forest bathing. Traditional Hanok guesthouses provide a delightful accommodation experience.
