    Program Introduction

    Hafa Adai! It means 'hello'.

    We welcome volunteers to provide animal care, food, and supplies at the government-run shelter in Guam. This shelter has facilities to house and care for dogs, cats and rabbits and it provides food, shelter and medical care.

    Volunteering in the clinic 

    - Assisting with checking animal for surgery appointments

    - Assisting with preparaing animal for surgery
    (shaving animal, giving eye drops to animal, helping staff place breathing tube for animal, carrying animal from prep room to surgery room)

    - Basic observation during surgeries

    - Assisting with animal recovery after surgery
    (watching animal after surgery to make sure breathing is normal, make sure animal is warm, make sure animal is waking up properly, to be available to let any staff members know if animal is behaving strangely after surgery)

    - Providing same assistance to clinlic in other villages on Guam

     

     

    ■ Volunteering at the shelter

     

    - Helping with basic chores
    (feeding animal, flushing kennels, poop scooping, scrubbing kennels, bringing laundry into office, 
    basic cleaning like taking out trash and making sure shelter looks clean and presentable)

    - Helping to direct customers who are visiting shelter

    - Walking adult dogs in play park

    - Spending time in the cat building with adult cats and kittens

    - Helping with monthly supply drives 
    (spend a couple of hours handing out Wish List to customers at stores to encourage the donation of needed items

    Founded in 1989, this animal shelter is a non-profit organization dedicated to the prevention of cruelty to animals, and to the education of the public concerning matters pertaining to animals and their welfare. The organization is located in Yigo, has facilities to house and care for dogs, cats and rabbits, and provides food, shelter and medical care.

    Accommodation

     

    This project is not included accommodation. 


    Volunteers are free to choose accommodation according to their personal preferences and budget. 
    Korea Gap Year is able to recommend accommodation(guest house, hotel, etc.) for volunteers who have difficulty finding accommodation.

    Hafa Adai (Hello) 

    Yigo is the northernmost village of the United States territory of Guam, and is the location of Andersen Air Force Base. On the map, the village looks like a triangle that stretches from Pati Point to Ritidian in the North, and from Ritidian to the coast near Pagat.
